Government is the exercise of authority over a political unit. Governments are complex. They are carefully constructed and can go downhill under wrong supervision. The United States has three branches of government. There are rules that ensure each does not overpower the other. Government is able to check itself and its branches. It is necessary because it provides protection and other opportunities. In contrast, it is not necessary because of two reasons. They abuse their political power; and they are outdated. This paper will explain how.
There are no right or wrong assumptions of government. It serves purposes and functions that benefit everyone. A society needs government like a body needs a head. Without that head, it is easy to scatter and cause chaos. One of the functions of government is protection. Government funds prisons. And prisons hold criminals that break the rules. This system protects the citizens that the government serves.
In contrast, government is not necessary for society at large. This is because it can abuse its power. Governmental abuse can manifest in different ways. For example, power might be used to intimidate. In 1933, Adolf Hitler was elected Chancellor of the Nazi party. The Nazi party is also known as National Socialist German Workers Party. History proves that Hitler abused his position as Chancellor. Hitler intimidated groups of people in Germany. He is responsible for more than one million deaths. Hitler caused true terror to his constituents. His leadership is a good example of why government is not necessary. Government can allow for bigots’ rise to power. If so, society may be good without.
Government is necessary because it provides opportunities. Opportunities that might include jobs, education and social reform. These opportunities are what keeps citizens occupied. They give them something to look forward to. This is why we have administrations that oversee these opportunities areas. Good government systems bring people together. They lead them to a better path. Therefore they can survive and be better individuals.
In contrast, government are not necessary because they are outdated. For example, the U.S. Constitution was written in 1787. This document was formed more than 200 years ago. The world changed a great deal in 200 years. There were two world wars and other things. The ideas held by the founding fathers in 1787 may be outdated. Our government bases its judgements from this fragile document. The document can inspire wrong ideas of “freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” That is not something the people might be in favor of. Government should be for the people. Therefore, government is not necessary if it isn’t serving its people.
Furthermore, governments are necessary because they provide opportunities. They protect its citizens from danger and also from itself. It is simply built into society as a part of everyone’s lives without even knowing it. They prevent corrupt politics. They do it all for its people. And if people make up a political state, they need government. On the other hand, government is not necessary because of power abuse and outdated documents.
